Placement
New students must submit the completed registration form along with registration fee, prior to or on the day of the first class.
The Academy may recommend an informal interview, audition or trial lesson in order to assure placement with an appropriate instructor at an appropriate level. The audition fee is the cost of one lesson.
New students may enroll at any time; tuition will be prorated as necessary.
The Academy reserves the right to withdraw courses for which enrollment is insufficient. Additional classes may be offered if class reaches maximum enrollment.
Late Fees
A late fee of $20 will be charged for payments more than two weeks overdue. The Academy reserves the right to suspend or discontinue instruction of any student who is delinquent in fulfilling their financial obligation.
Withdrawals/Refunds
There will be a full refund for a class if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment or a prorated refund if the number of the students falls below minimum in the middle of the session, which might cause the cancellation of the class.
Formal notification of withdrawal must be made in person, by phone, or in writing to the Academy, who must approve the withdrawal.
Refund will be calculated from the date the academy is given the formal notification.
Refund will be granted to students withdrawing from the class within 4 weeks of enrollment. The refund amount will be prorated.
Refund or credit may be granted for withdrawal due to special circumstances, at the Academy's discretion.
Teacher notification is not considered formal notice of withdrawal. Non-attendance is not considered notice of withdrawal. If you wish to withdraw during the school session, written notification must be made to the Academy in order to release you from your financial obligations.
Attendance/Absences
Regular attendance is expected. Absences without proper reason are not subject to make-ups, credits or refunds. The Academy reserves the right to discontinue a student with poor attendance at any time.
In cases of prolonged illness or injury, the Academy must be notified of all lessons that will be missed. A doctor's note or other medical document may be requested in order to receive credit.
Inclement Weather
If the Academy closes due to inclement weather, the Academy will make their best effort to contact the faculty members and students. The closure will be posted on the Academy website http://www.aica-dc.org
Make-up Lessons
Our academic year is followed by at least one full week for make-up lessons. Faculty members may schedule make-ups during that week or at another mutually convenient time.
No make-ups are given to students absent from a group class.
If a teacher must be absent, students will be notified by phone, when possible, and a make-up lesson will be scheduled by the teacher at a mutually convenient time. Communication regarding rescheduled lessons is between student and teacher. The Academy does not schedule makeup lessons or rearrange individual teachers' schedules from week to week.
Tardiness/Missing Books
Students who are late for a scheduled lesson or forget their lesson book are not guaranteed their full lesson length. Students more than 15 minutes late for their lesson will be considered absent. The instructor reserves the right to cancel the remainder of the lesson, if there are no students.
The Academy reserves the right to dismiss any student because of lack of interest, frequent absences (more than three in a row), frequent tardiness, behavioral problems, or failure to abide by the policies.
